The Lessons To Be Learned From The Planet, Life And Our Fellow Creatures

Messages From Nature – I’ve been actively involved in learning about animal issues for the last ten years. Before then I was asleep – not intentionally – I just didn’t realize I should be asking questions about the products I bought – the clothing I wore or the food that I consumed.

In Defence Of Spiders

In Defence Of Spiders

Hugh – A Little Life Observed

In Defence Of Spiders – I walked out my kitchen door one evening in early September. It was a warm, muggy night – made a little less so by the recent rain shower. I paused in front of a spider’s web – coated with fine, glistening water droplets. It was intricate and lacey and lovely and it made me smile. The web was suspended from one of my hanging summer plants and anchored in a number of places along the top of my garden rocking chair. The creator of this magical web of spun silk was absent. I wondered what twist of fate had led this spider to spin his fragile web in such an open, unprotected space in my garden.

Protesting Yulin, China – 2017

Protesting Yulin, China – 2017

This Festival Must Be Banned

Protesting Yulin, China – 2017 – Sadly another Yulin dog and cat eating festival is just about to begin. Animals will be systematically tortured, boiled, skinned and cooked alive. We do not live in a civilized world and China is not the only culprit in the global holocaust against animals. As you protest against Yulin you may want to question your own contribution to animal exploitation and cruelty.

A Re-Cap Of Year 4

Happy Fourth Birthday ABH – My animal awareness blog – A Beating Heart is four years old today. I launched it on February 14, 2013 – a nod to the day of hearts and love and in recognition of the often forgotten fact that every sentient being has “A Beating Heart”. Never question that: We love – They love. We feel – They feel. We grieve – They grieve. We play – They play. We cry – They Cry and We suffer – They suffer!

Humanity has no singular claim to an emotional, spiritual and physical existence.

The Lions

The Lions

The Lions – once again, brilliant wildlife photographer, Fred von Winckelmann has generously allowed me to share his stunning photographs. The sole purpose of this post is to highlight the beauty of the African lions, and to acknowledge their fragile tenure in the world. Estimates vary, but there may be as few as twenty to thirty thousand lions remaining in the wild. We, global citizens, must do everything we can to ensure that they continue to thrive on the vast, open lands where their ancestors left footprints in the sand. We owe them nothing less that our ceaseless efforts to protect them.

Thank you, Fred.

Rest Well Now Tilikum

Rest Well Now Tilikum

And still they die. Victims of human ignorance, ugliness, lies and arrogance.

Rest Well Now Tilikum. They die because humans do not stand up together to demand that laws be changed – that our planet be respected and that all animals be granted the freedom they deserve. Qumquat – Limba – Marius – Tembe – Satao – Joy – Watoto – Arturo – Ronnie – Cecil and countless more. All at the hands of human kind. Murdered, captured, enslaved, exploited, poached, used and abused. They die because humans lack a moral compass. They die because we are a tragic, lost species.

‘Tis The Season

‘Tis The Season

Be Grateful

‘Tis The Season again and with it the hustle and bustle of all things Christmas and Holiday. I am a lucky woman. My life is blessed by abundance. If yours is too, spend some time sending loving energy out to our beautiful tired planet and those less fortunate, of whom there are many. Every small gesture matters more than we can ever know.
