Dragonflies & A Garden Bell
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 6, 2004 – I have a yen for a bell for my back yard pergola. I saw an ornate , black iron one last week at Bill’s Garden Centre for $44.99. It was exactly the size I’d envisioned and I thought it was an amazing price. But what do I know about the price of bells in Toronto? As it turns out, very little.

For I Have A Soul
For I Have A Soul – I saw this picture awhile ago – and of all the appalling images that I have seen online – this one wrenched my heart like no other. This woman in China has hung a living dog by the neck and while it is alive and crying she is systematically cutting and peeling off his flesh to put into a cooking pot. She might just as well be painting a door. There is a complete disconnect with the fact that this is a terrified, living being who feels pain and fear. Feeling Appreciated
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 4, 2004 – This was a very busy, frustrating week. I had double-booked clients, missed my Moby Dick Book Club meeting, had a sick dog, no time for myself, didn’t get enough sleep and worked too many hours. At times I felt overwhelmed and grumpy. Today a real estate deal I’d worked on fell apart.

A Sick Puppy
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 3, 2004 – I had a long, exhausting day today. I picked up my first clients at nine-thirty in the morning. I was back home for an hour between three an four and then gone again until one o’clock in the morning. When I opened the back door to the kitchen, I could see Augie standing in the downstairs hallway.
