Murera An Injured Elephant Recovers

Such a great way to start a Monday morning with positive news about a baby elephant. Murera an injured, elephant orphan is recovering well after suffering severe injuries to her back legs. But it has been a long road back to health for the baby elephant. Watch as Dame Daphne Sheldrick talks about her rescue, treatment and on-going recovery at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. It is believed that Murera may have stepped on a strip of poisoned darts.

What Did An Ivory Heart Mean To Me? I was in Alberta years ago and visited the magnificent Banff Springs Hotel in Lake Louise. I couldn’t afford to stay there – but it was a nice, relaxing place for a “then younger me” to have lunch, after a brisk three hour hike. Today, I’d probably spend the morning in the spa. But I digress. After lunch I wandered around and ended up in one of the shops. I can’t recall if it was a gift shop and art gallery or just a gift shop, but I do remember that it had exquisite merchandise. I have loved jewellery all my life and it was no surprise that I spent most of my time at the jewellery counter.

I will always be grateful to have discovered the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in 2007. At the time I was attending a meeting with Paul MacKenzie of Ele-Host Web Designs in Toronto to discuss the hosting of my real estate website. I noticed elephant pictures and sculptures in Paul’s office, and being a long time admirer of elephants, I asked about them. Paul told me about his trip to visit the Trust in Africa and I was delighted to learn about the incredibly important work being done on behalf of the orphaned elephants.
